Child Life Teenager

Am I able to stay with my child while he or she is hospitalized?

Yes. We encourage one parent or guardian to stay while their child is hospitalized. Each room is equipped with a sleeper chair, or you may request a cot. Additional family members are welcome to stay at David's House, (603) 643-2298, or to contact area hotels for availability. Read about the DHMC Rest Easy Lodging Program.

Can my child have their favorite stuffed animal with them during their hospitalization?

Yes. You are welcome to bring any items that are comforting to your child. Having these familiar items can help to normalize the environment and make coping easier. Read suggestions about what to bring.

Is mobile phone usage permitted?

Mobile phone usage is not permitted in the pediatric intensive care unit. In other locations, you are welcome to use your phone, although reception may be spotty in certain areas. Each patient room is also equipped with a landline so that you may use a calling card.

Is there Internet access?

Yes. Wireless access is available so families are welcome to bring personal laptops. There is also a computer with Internet access in our family lounge and a laptop available for adolescent patients in our teen lounge. For patients unable to leave their room, the pediatric inpatient unit and pediatric intensive care unit each have a limited number of laptops available for patients to use for homework or messaging with friends. These laptops are reserved for patient use only.

Are activities available for my child?

Yes. There are daily creative activities for patients and their siblings. There is also a playroom and teen lounge with games and activities for patients and siblings (children in the playroom require parent/guardian supervision). CHaD also offers community-based entertainment and seasonal special events.
