How can Sneak-a-Peek help my child?

During the program, children will:

  • Become familiar with the hospital environment
  • Meet some of the people who will be caring for them
  • Become comfortable with scrub dress
  • Learn about the equipment through play therapy
  • Learn more about routine procedures involved in preparing children for surgery
  • Have the opportunity to ask questions
  • Return after surgery, if desired, to review and understand more about their recent surgical experiences

When are the tours?

  • Sneak-a-Peek tours will be held on the first and third Sundays of each month.
  • The tours begin at 4:00 pm and are approximately one hour long.

How do we sign up?

To make reservations Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, please call (603) 653-9883.

How do I find Operation Sneak-a-Peek?

You should arrive at the Same Day Program (PDF) and a staff member will meet you to begin the tour and answer any of your questions.

Who can come on the tour?

Children may invite a friend or sibling(s) to accompany them on the tour. Younger children may feel more secure if they bring a favorite stuffed animal, toy, or security blanket.

How close to the surgery should we take the tour?

  • Children under age 5 should make the Sneak-a-Peek tour as close to their scheduled surgery as possible.
  • Children ages 6 to 11 should tour the area no more than two weeks before the surgery date.
  • Older children and adolescents can tour from two to four weeks before surgery.

We look forward to sneaking a peek at you while you sneak a peek at us. We hope this program will take some of the mystery out of what happens before, during, and after surgery.
